CONCEPTION OF THE PROGRAM
Ganesh Festival is a Hindu festival celebrating the arrival of Ganesha to earth from ‘Kailash Parvat’ with his mother goddess Parvati/Gauri. The festival is marked with the installation of Ganesha clay idols privately in homes, or publicly on elaborate pandals (temporary stages). Observations include chanting of Vedic hymns and Hindu texts such as, prayers and vrata(fasting). Offerings and prasadam from the daily prayers, that are distributed from the pandal to the community, include sweets such as modaka as it is believed to be a favorite of Lord Ganesh.
Given the pandemic, this year the event was conducted on a low scale. The sister colleges, who had done Ganpati Sthapna in the colleges were approached for Nirmlaya which was then taken to the compost pit.
Nirmalya collection has been a devoted practice of TIMR. This year too, even though the students were not present in the college due to the pandemic, the Teaching and the Non Teaching Staff fervently carried out the activity on 31st August and 1st September 2020.
